During his travels, Mensch’s bench was damaged. Alissa’s (Recreation) neighbor Frank designed and created a new sturdy wood bench for our Ambassador!
Engraved on the bottom of the bench is the year 2017 in Latin – Franks signature trademark.

Happy Birthday, Barbra!! Our Adult Day Program participants were treated to an oral biography about this star from our valued volunteer, Martin. Martin would be considered a Super Fan of Streisand. Participants learned about her life through books and personal stories, as well as watching an episode of “My Name is Barbra” from 1965.

As one of its Beneficiary Agencies, every year we approach the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg to request financial support for our High Holiday Services. The attendance at these services has grown as they are very popular with our residents and their families. As a result we have had to pay for audio/visual specialists to live stream the services into our Atrium area where we have set up additional seating. In addition, the Federation has provided financial support to enable us to engage our High Holidays Choir. Below is the 2017 presentation given to the Federation Allocations Committee. Because it contains a wealth of information about the Simkin Centre we thought we would share it with you.
Presentation to Jewish Federation of Winnipeg – Allocations Committee – April 19 2017
This morning residents thoroughly enjoyed a presentation given by Ross Smith from the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association. Ross is a brother-in-law of one of our residents. Not only were we given interesting and not well known facts about the transit system, but we also took a trip back in time. Many residents remembered sitting on those buses and had stories to tell. The Manitoba Transit Heritage Association would love to provide your organization with the same presentation. Here is their link if you are interested. http://winnipegtransit.com/en/about-us/MTHA/
