Community shows how much it cares at the Simkin Stroll – Tuesday, June 25, 2024!
For the 12th year (rain or shine), the community will gather to celebrate healthy aging at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for the Simkin Stroll, a walk in support of enhanced evening and weekend Therapeutic Recreation Programming and Services. Our goal is to raise an ambitious 80,000.00 this year.
“As I walk alongside my family, friends and neighbours on the Simkin Stroll, I’m reminded that together, we’re not just taking steps, we’re creating memories that will last a lifetime and building a foundation for future Residents.” —Kerry, Resident
Please review the Taking Steps Together sponsorship/donation opportunities. If we can raise the full $80,000.00, it will mean a vast improvement to our evening and weekend programming as well as additional support for our Residents who have more significant care requirements. Contact Jo Magnifico jo.magnifico@simkincentre.ca or 204.589.9027 with any questions.
Therapeutic Recreation Services engage the body, mind, and imagination by providing enriching life experiences regardless of barriers to health.
Community support and participation (family, friends, neighbours, volunteers, business leaders, politicians, stakeholders etc.) will help us provide meaningful activities and experiences that bring cognitive stimulation, and a sense of purpose and belonging to Residents – from music, exercise, entertainment, and cultural events, to crafts, art therapy, pet therapy and excursions etc. With a sponsorship or donation, recreational programming and services can reach new heights, offering more diverse and engaging activities that cater to the tastes and wellbeing of our Residents. Note: Evening and weekend Therapeutic Recreation Programs are not covered by health care funding and are only possible with the support of our caring community.
One shining example is Resident Gertie Lipson, 90, whose passion for music and poetry found a new avenue for expression. Gertie collaborated with Quinton, a talented guitarist at the Centre, to bring her original lyrics to life in a beautiful song called “Thank you Nature” that we share with you (please click on the beautiful song link to open in your browser and play the video). This joint effort nurtured Gertie’s creativity and fostered a lasting bond between her and Quinton, demonstrating the power of music to unite hearts and souls. Your investment can make moments like this possible, inspiring joy, camaraderie, and accomplishment among those who call the Simkin Centre home.
Together, we can make this year’s Simkin Stroll a resounding success…your keen interest in our Residents and our mission to provide compassionate care is what makes our community thrive. See you on June 25th!
