Up, Up and Away

Up, up & away! Residents wrote messages on pieces of paper and the pieces of paper were placed inside helium balloons. The balloons were then sent off to be found. As you can see, the intended recipient of the messages varied depending on the writer. One resident hoped that Prince Harry would find her message.

A Grand Surprise

Residents, families, staff, volunteers and companions enjoyed a special treat. Ron Paley and Vicki Knight needed to do a little rehearsing and offered to rehearse at the Simkin Centre. Using our Grand Piano in the Tallman Multi-Purpose Room, Ron played while Vicki sang her heart out. They brought out smiles, claps and laughter from the residents. We want to thank them for bringing their gift of music to us. This day will always be remembered and cherished.

Colouring – Having Fun with Benefits

Colouring-in has long been considered a therapeutic activity suitable for the young and old. Colouring evokes feelings of peace, enjoyment and satisfaction. We’ve started incorporating this activity into our programs for residents. Some of the noted benefits of coloring for seniors are; mood improvement, stress releif, reduces agitation, promotes socialization and reminiscing, provides an outlet for self-expression, helps to maintain motor function, improves hand-eye coordination, improves dexterity (grip control), encourages cooperation, promotes mindfulness (full attention & concentration), and provides a sense of accomplishment. Below are a few pictures taken of our residents creating something beautiful.

Welcome

Today we welcomed another resident to the Simkin Centre. When a new resident joins our family, a gift bag is given to them, courtesy of the Simkin/Weinberg Resident Council. Our Resident Council pays for the gift bags and it’s contents. Contained within the bag is a welcome letter from the Council, Simkin building/dept. contact numbers, hand lotion, tissue, notepad, pen, chocolates and shampoo. Cookies, Music and Technology

???????????????????????????????

Yesterday morning residents were busy making chocolate chip cookies. The atmosphere was especially enjoyable with Frank Sinatra singing in the background. In the afternoon, everyone got to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
