Pet Therapy Benefits Residents
“Dusti” brought joy and comfort to our residents last week. Larry and Dusti volunteer on a regular basis. Thank you for taking the time to share your Dusti with us.
“Emotionally, animals can provide seniors with companionship, as well as the following:
A sense of caring and gentleness as many animals instinctively nurture ailing humans. Increased self esteem as seniors find they can care for the pet or the animal enjoys seeing them. Decreased anxiety and depression by fo…rming a nurturing bond with an animal. Reduced loneliness by caring for and spending time with an animal.
Increased social interaction with other patients or animal handlers. Higher comfort levels when visiting with family members in the presence of the pet.”
