Cookbook Treasure
One never knows what treasures they will find at the Simkin Centre!
Each week I visit with Sheila Streifler, a resident, and we bake a recipe from one of the many recipe books in the Recreation Dept.
One day I selected one book that grabbed Sheila’s eye, as it looked very familiar.
The book was published in the early 1970’s by the late Cherie Smith of the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada – Vancouver Chapter. But, it is the significance of the illustrations in the book that Sheila was excited to share. Her own sister Elaine Charach Dirnfeld of Vancouver created ALL the food illustrations in the book!
Recently, Elaine came to visit Sheila and was proud to auto-graph the book on behalf of the council.
Of all the cookbooks in the world, this one brought such pride for Sheila.
